The waterproofing system
Liquid Membrane System
A paint-on liquid membrane applied in two or more coats over primer, with reinforcing tape at every corner, junction and penetration. The standard wet-area method.
Advantages
- Seamless, gap-free barrier
- Flexes with the building (good on the road)
- Works on floors and walls
Considerations
- Must be applied to standard in multiple coats
- Needs full drying time between coats
- Licensed work in many areas

Compressed Fibre Cement Floor Overlay
Tiny homes have timber-framed floors, which flex. A 6–9mm compressed fibre-cement sheet is laid first to give the membrane a rigid, stable base.
Advantages
- Stops floor flex cracking the membrane
- Essential over timber/ply floors
- Solid base for tiles
Considerations
- Adds weight — check trailer loading
- Extra material and labour cost

Wet-Room (full floor) Waterproofing
For a hobless wet-room layout the entire bathroom floor is membraned, not just the shower — more area, more detailing around the drain.
Advantages
- Suits open tiny-home wet rooms
- No shower hob to step over
- Whole floor protected
Considerations
- More area to seal = higher cost
- Drain and falls must be set correctly

Sealing Penetrations & Joints
Every tap entry, drain, screw and wall junction is a potential leak. These are treated with bond breakers, flanges and the right silicone — the detail that makes or breaks the job.
Advantages
- Targets the most common failure points
- Cheap insurance against big damage
Considerations
- Easy to do badly
- Needs the correct products, not just any silicone
